Swan Lake & Buddy's Big Day Out!

I have been working exclusively on Swan Lake since I had a class on Friday.  I am about 1/5th of the way through making hexagon flowers and today decided I would lay them out on one of the panels.  I am slowly realising there is a lot more to this quilt than first meets the eye.

I have also fallen in love with a new colour - Black!!!  I have always loved black clothing because it makes me look thinner but now I want to use it in all my quilts.  At class on Friday, Sarah had gathered some blacks together for her quilt.  They looked fantastic so I had to get some too.  Once I made one hexagon flower, that was it.  I think black will be the new brown for me as far as quilts go.

This is only part of the mess I made today!

Sunday saw the annual event of Paws in the Park.  It is run by the local council.  Stalls are all around the park with everything from dog grooming to microchipping and special doggie treats.  They have obedience and flyball demonstrations and an obstacle course for your dog to try.  The weather wasn't the best but lots of people and their dogs still came.

This is the third year I have taken Buddy and he loves it!  There are so many dogs, big ones, little ones, strange looking ones and oh the smells!!!!!  This is the best photo I could get of him.  There was just too much for him to investigate.  At least I got a shot of his bandana - have to dress him up for a big occasion such as this!

You are really making progress on Phebe and Swan Lake! Those hexagons are really looking good. I'm just the opposite of you, I have always liked black and am just now starting to like brown.

Hi Sue-Anne,
Well done on all those hexagons and the black added does bring a new dimension to it. It is going to be one awesome quilt. Buddy looks great in his bandanna, I can see that he was loving what was going on around him.

Glad Buddy got to go out for some fun. Love that bandanna. Love bandanna's in general and add to that the dog love and by golly - I'm just head over heels already and I haven't even had coffee yet! I shouldn't be out in public yet.

Sue-Anne, your hexagons are rich and being a black lover myself I can really, really get into these. They are so luxurious. You have a real eye for combining fabrics. Very well done dear friend, very well done. With beauty and skill combined!

Warmly not even over coffee yet. ;) *karendianne.

Nice collection of hexagons now Sue-Anne. I was told that add little black to improve the colour. I hardly use black I might have to try that sometimes. It looked like fun on Paws in the park

Nice to know you make as big a mess as I do when deeply involved in "creating"! I know my dogs would have loved the outing, too, for them any stimulation other than boring old Mom is heaven! Your hexies are glorious, I'm jealous. Michele

Your hexies are very understated and elegant. I think the black gives the eye a place to rest and compliments the color. I like the result.
Buddy is like my grendson. TOO Busy He obviously had a good day.
Happy Stitching Terry

Good blacks in quilting fabric are not the easiest to find. I always look at them in any shop I go to looking for new ones.

Very pretty hexies! I have recently gotten a few blacks, and was surprised at how well they play, bringing out the colors.

What a fun day for Buddy! Swan Lake is coming along very nicely. I'm one for black clothing also and am surprised how little black fabric I have in my stash. Guess I need to fix that!

Your work looks so wonderful. I am thinking that all of this is hand work. I am so awful at it that any work like this leaves me speechless. I am all thumbs.
